Brederode Castle
Dramatically restored 13th-century castle ruins buried for centuries under dunes, featuring four corner towers, a keep you can climb for sweeping countryside views, and a moat. Interactive play activities for children include period costumes, wooden horses, treasure hunts and blocks for rebuilding the castle. Special events include medieval reenactments, knight tournaments and concerts throughout the season.
Open April to October only; lies on the edge of Zuid-Kennemerland National Park with excellent cycling routes via Dutch bike highways; steep, narrow tower stairs not suitable for very young children or those with mobility issues.
