Unesco Werelderfgoed Kinderdijk
Iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring 19 beautifully preserved 18th-century windmills built as part of an ingenious Dutch water management system. Explore museum mills showing historical family life and technology, take boat tours past the mills, climb narrow staircases inside restored windmills, and learn seven centuries of Dutch struggle against water. Accessible via flat walkways, bicycle paths, or scenic boat rides through authentic polder landscapes.
Walking around the mills and photographing from outside is completely free; only pay tickets for windmill interiors and boat tours. Best visited early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds, especially nice in September when weather is ideal and tourist season has ended.
