It is snowing in the city, but Kruimeltje is never cold. No one has money, but Kruimeltje is never poor. He does not know who or where his father or mother are, but Kruimeltje is never alone.

He was dropped off with Mrs. Koster as a baby, but he sleeps on the street more often than with her in that little alcove dwelling. There is always something going on here every day. There is always something to do in the harbor, or you can go to the street where Wilkes has his shop and the Commissioner holds sway. The Adventures of Kruimeltje tells of all those adventurous experiences of a 10-year-old street boy in the big city, and how that kid, with his head full of sunshine, manages to survive every setback. He catches criminals, leads a rebellion against alcohol abuse, organizes a wild costume party at a concert, and starts a flourishing trade in hand-picked roses. And in doing so, we see how he also makes other people's lives a lot more pleasant. You wish a boy like that would one day find his father and mother again… but will he succeed?
