Make Your Own Easter Egg

Wereldmuseum Amsterdam · 14:00–18:00

Christians all over the world celebrate Easter. The holiday is about Jesus, the Son of God. The Bible states that Jesus was born to save people from their sins. Christians believe that when he died, he took the punishment for the sins of all people upon himself. And as a miracle, three days later he rose from the dead! That is what is celebrated at Easter. This weekend, Easter takes center stage at the World Museum, where you can make your own colorful Easter egg, inspired by lowicz wycinanki, the Polish paper cutting art. It is a special technique in which eggshells are covered with multicolored paper cutouts of flowers, plants, and roosters.

Van Ei tot Leven (From Egg to Life)

ARTIS - Groote Museum · 17:00–18:15

Why do so many animals actually lay eggs? Why do those eggs have such a distinctive shape? How do animals build nests that are strong enough to keep their eggs safe? And how does a chick know when it is time to hatch? Over Easter weekend, ARTIS animal caretaker Nanja Burek gives us a behind-the-scenes look and teaches you everything you've always wanted to know about eggs. Using the many eggs laid and hatched at ARTIS as examples, we discover just how different eggs, nests, and brooding behavior can be among animals. In short: the perfect program to attend with the whole family after Easter brunch. Learn new things and then look with fresh eyes at all the bird nests you come across everywhere in the spring.
